ZIGWME 2018.
composed for and performed by the Del Sol String 4tet |
AdENDDA is composed of a singular, repeated rhythmic phrase, virtually un-notatable; its nuance existing in the cracks of delineated beats in a measure. The phrase has a melodic shape, but has no determinate pitch, clef, key nor register, all of which are interpreted by the individual performers. The result of this freedom is intended to highlight the melodic contour without any tonality. AdENDDA is notated on a six-line staff to further destabilize a conventional reading of pitches and intervals. The static rhythmic phrase becomes a filter through which to hear shifting, serialized accent patterns and displaced melodic fragments from an exhaustive number of perspectives or orientations.
